Manga Typesetting Tutorial: Clean & Letter Pages with AI (2026)

Cleaning and typesetting a manga page by hand can take an hour. In this tutorial, I'll clean and typeset two raw pages with AI, and fix every bubble the AI gets wrong.

First, the two words. Cleaning means erasing the original text from the bubbles. Typesetting means lettering the translation back in, so it fits.

MangaGloss does both in one pass. It finds each bubble, paints the old text out, and letters the English in.

Open the translate page and drop in your raw page. I'm using an original Japanese page made for this demo.

Set the languages. Japanese to English.

Then click Translate.

This page took forty four seconds.

Here's the result. The Japanese is gone, and every bubble has English in it.

But look closely. Some lines are too big for their bubbles. The test is tomorrow runs off the edge, and so does sleeping.

Fixing that is typesetting work, and it's what the Edit tab is for. Every text region is listed next to the page.

Click a region, and its bubble lights up on the page.

Press the minus button to shrink the lettering. I took three regions down to eighty percent.

Then click Re-render. The page is lettered again with your settings. It takes a few minutes.

Now studying in my dreams, and why are you sleeping, fit. The first bubble is cut off by the edge of the page, so the text has no room. For a bubble like that, I letter the line by hand.

Second page, a Chinese manhua page. Here the last line pokes out of the top and the bottom of the bubble.

Same fix. Select the region, press minus twice, and re-render.

And now it sits inside the bubble, with room to spare.

When every bubble fits, click Download.
