Upload your manga, manhwa, or manhua pages in PNG, JPG, or WebP format (or a ZIP archive of an entire chapter). Pick your target language and hit translate. Our GPU pipeline runs four steps automatically: first, a manga-tuned text detector (CTD) finds every speech bubble, narration box, and sound effect on the page. Then OCR reads the source text. A large language model translates it with full-page context so dialogue reads naturally. Finally, the original text is cleanly inpainted away and the translated text is typeset onto the page with matched fonts. Most pages finish in 6-10 seconds. You can then review the result in the built-in editor before downloading.
02Is this legal?
MangaGloss is a translation tool -- like Google Translate or Photoshop. You upload your own content and are responsible for having the rights to translate it. We never host, distribute, or build a readable catalog of translated works -- there is no browse page, no library, and no way for other users to see your files. All uploads are automatically deleted within 24 hours. We comply with DMCA takedown requests and maintain a registered DMCA agent. See our Terms of Service and DMCA Policy for full details.
03What languages are supported?
Source languages: Japanese and Chinese (both simplified and traditional). Target languages at launch: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese (BR), Indonesian, German, Turkish, Russian, Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, and Chinese Traditional. Arabic is available in beta. Korean source text support is on our roadmap. Each language pair uses the same premium LLM engine for high-quality, context-aware translations. Check the How It Works page for a complete table of language codes and status.
04What file formats can I upload?
We accept PNG, JPG, and WebP images, with a maximum file size of 20 MB per page. You can upload files individually by dragging them into the translator, or upload a ZIP archive containing an entire chapter. ZIP uploads process all pages in order and let you download the full translated chapter as a single ZIP. For best OCR accuracy, we recommend PNG files at the original scan resolution. Avoid heavily compressed JPGs, as compression artifacts can reduce text detection quality.
05Do you store my images?
Only temporarily for processing. All uploaded images and translated outputs are stored on Cloudflare R2 and are automatically deleted within 24 hours. We do not keep backups, caches, or archives of your content beyond that window. There is no way to recover files after deletion. We recommend downloading your translated pages as soon as they are ready. This auto-delete policy applies to all tiers, including paid plans.
06Do you use my images to train AI?
No, never. We do not use your uploaded images, OCR results, translation outputs, or any derivative data to train, fine-tune, or improve any machine learning models. Your content is processed through the pipeline once and then permanently deleted within 24 hours. This commitment applies to all users on every plan. Our Privacy Policy documents this guarantee in detail.
07How many pages can I translate for free?
Anonymous users get 30 free pages per week with no sign-up required and no watermark on the output. The quota resets every 7 days (ISO week). The free tier uses the same premium GPU pipeline and LLM engine as paid plans -- there is no quality difference. If you need more volume, the Creator plan ($9/month) includes 1,500 pages per month, and the Pro plan ($24/month) includes 6,000. You can also buy a one-time credit pack of 2,000 pages for $19 that never expires.
08What is the built-in editor?
The built-in editor lets you click on any translated text bubble in the output image, edit the wording, adjust font size and placement, and re-render the page instantly -- all in your browser. This is useful for fixing nuanced dialogue, adjusting line breaks, or correcting names the AI got wrong. No other manga translation tool offers a post-translation editor. The editor is available on Creator and Pro plans, and works with the per-series glossary for consistent terminology.
09What is a glossary?
A glossary is a per-series list of term/translation pairs that you define once and apply to every chapter. For example, you can lock a character's name (e.g., 'Tanjirou' instead of 'Tanjiro'), attack names, honorifics, and place names. When the glossary is active, the translation engine injects your terms into the LLM prompt so they appear consistently in every page. This prevents the common problem of names drifting between chapters. Glossaries are available on Creator and Pro plans and can hold unlimited terms per series.
10How accurate are the translations?
We use a premium large language model (currently Google Gemini 2.5 Flash) that translates with full-page context rather than line-by-line. This produces natural-sounding dialogue for most manga genres. However, no AI translation is perfect -- wordplay, cultural references, slang, and heavily stylized speech may need manual adjustment. That is exactly why we built the editor: you can review every bubble and fix any line before downloading. For series with recurring terminology, the per-series glossary further improves consistency and accuracy.
11Can I translate manhwa (Korean) or manhua (Chinese)?
Yes. Our OCR and translation pipeline supports Japanese and Chinese source text at launch. Korean source text support is on our roadmap. The pipeline handles both traditional paneled manga layouts and tall vertical-scroll webtoon strips, so manhwa and manhua pages process without cropping or splitting. Check our dedicated Korean Manhwa Translator and Chinese Manhua Translator pages for details on format-specific features.
12How do payments work?
All payments are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle handles billing, sales tax, VAT, and receipts in your local currency. We accept credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal. Subscriptions (Creator at $9/month, Pro at $24/month) can be cancelled anytime from your dashboard with no cancellation fee. One-time credit packs ($19 for 2,000 pages) never expire. Paddle issues invoices and handles refund requests.
13What if I find a bug or have a feature request?
We would love to hear from you. Email us at support@mangagloss.com with a description of the issue or your idea. If reporting a bug, include the page image and target language if possible -- this helps us reproduce and fix it faster. We actively develop the product and ship updates regularly. Feature requests that align with our roadmap (like the editor and glossary) get prioritized based on user demand.
14Can I translate NSFW or adult manga?
Yes. MangaGloss processes any manga pages you upload, including mature and adult content. We are a translation tool, not a content host -- we do not filter, censor, or moderate your uploads based on content type. The same OCR, translation, inpainting, and typesetting pipeline runs on all pages equally. All files auto-delete within 24 hours regardless of content.
15Do I need an account to use MangaGloss?
No. The free tier gives you 30 pages per week and works entirely without sign-up or login. Just visit the translator page, upload your images, and download the results. Creating a free account unlocks additional features: the built-in editor for adjusting translations, per-series glossaries for consistent terminology, translation history, and the ability to purchase higher page limits through Creator or Pro plans.
